Winter retreat

Fellowship groups at First Baptist are loosely organized and plan a variety of activities that are open to the entire church and friends of members. There is no formal organization or membership; leadership in planning activities is done by those with interests in particular activities. All events are open to the entire church, including friends of church members, and are advertised in the church newsletter.

For example, a group of people, known earlier as the “DOTS” (Doing Our Thing Simply), get together for a variety of activities, including concerts, attending a play at American Players Theatre, Memorial Day and Labor Day breakfasts at Hoyt park, an annual weekend retreat at the American Baptist Assembly in Green Lake, and an occasional half-day canoe trip on the Wisconsin River.

The “Bunch” is another group of couples, individuals, and families with common interests in outdoor activities, music, theatre, and food. They get together about once a month to go hiking, cross country skiing, canoeing, biking (as the season dictates), or to attend a concert or theatre performance, or go to an interesting new restaurant in town. This group has also traveled abroad – sightseeing in Peru and the Galapagos, and teaching English and visiting AIDS orphans in China.
