First Baptist’s DECO(ration) TEAM believes that the visual arts can speak to the spirit of individuals in ways beyond the spoken word. We have a modest collection of artwork, both originals and copies, which we change to enhance the various seasons. Some items belong to the church, and some are on loan from participants. They include a wide variety of media, from a brass rubbing of a 15th Cent. plaque, to an Irish tapestry, to a series of 20th Cent woodblock prints, and to 21st Cent watercolors. We believe that God speaks to us in images beyond the overtly “religious”, so you may glimpse God’s hand in Monet’s garden or in Wisconsin’s wildlife. The inclusion of international artists helps us to understand the universality of God’s grace and the variety of ways in which God’s presence comes to each of us, God’s children.
