Hourglass Bible Study

Curious about the Bible but unable to commit to study on your own? If so, the Hourglass Bible study may be just right for you. No reading is required before the class; instead, we read the scripture together one week and share our reflections on that passage the next week. It’s an opportunity to work scripture into your everyday life and to benefit from the varied and honest reactions of others in the class.

Current Topic

1st Corinthians

This fall, the Hourglass Bible Study will read and reflect on 1^st Corinthians for its continuing faith development. 1^st Corinthians was probably written while Paul was in Ephesus, toward the end of his second missionary journey and during a relative high point in his missionary career. It was written in response to communication from the church, asking Paul to resolve specific questions, and answering those questions is the focus of his letter. When thinking about Paul, remember that Paul based his theology primarily on his personal experience on the road to Damascus. There were no “Christian” scholars at the time, and no New Testament gospels or letters from other Christian leaders. He had to work out his understanding mostly on his own. 2^nd Corinthians will be read next, beginning in January.

Join us to discover Paul’s understanding of the teachings and life of Jesus, and to explore how this understanding can deepen our faith through open discussion and sharing. The study meets on Sunday afternoons via Zoom from 4:30 to 5:30 PM. Hourglass Bible study is open to all; no prerequisites!
